Los Guido Methodist Church - "Catedral de Fe"
Los Guido is a shantytown area south of San Jose where we provide a weekly children's program at the invitation of the local Methodist pastor.
This is a typical street scene in Los Guido. While there is often electricity and running water, the houses are usually cobbled together from available materials, and families with many children often share just a couple of rooms. The dirt streets are also prone to flooding during the eight-month rainy season.

This is Edgar Ponce, a Seminary graduate and the pastor of the Methodist Church in Los Guido. Edgar has a real heart for children and for the poor. In addition to starting the Child Development Center (link at left), his church also hosts a soup kitchen where local children can receive breakfast and lunch five days a week. In order to involve some of the mothers more directly in their children's welfare, he requires them to take turns cooking the food and cleaning up each day.
